Spring at Marijampolė Art School: A Season of Creativity and Celebration

Spring at Marijampolė Art School is a vibrant and productive time. As the school year draws to a close, both students and teachers proudly showcase their achievements, and the entire school buzzes with creative energy and enthusiasm.

Between April and May, the school hosted a variety of cultural events that reflected the richness and intensity of the year’s work. Teachers and students involved in the INTERACTION project organized diverse educational activities, exhibitions, and creative workshops. Among the highlights were a contemporary opera performance and the implementation of the Plein Air event “Land Art,” which brought artistic expression into direct contact with nature.

A special moment was the INTERACTION project exhibition, which invited all training participants to admire the outcomes of their collective efforts. The exhibition reflected our shared ambition to live in harmony with nature and to create in ways that are both sustainable and environmentally conscious. It stood as a strong statement about the role of art in promoting ecological awareness and inspiring future generations to act responsibly.

Around sixty residents of Marijampolė took part in textile painting (batik) and ceramics workshops, where they had the chance to express their creativity alongside art teachers E. Lipinskaitė, K. Strolienė, and V. Vekerotas. These hands-on educational sessions were filled with meaningful conversations, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of the INTERACTION project, share experiences, and brainstorm new artistic ideas. A highlight for many was the opportunity to renew and transform old garments—giving them a second life through artistic expression.

One of the year’s most exceptional events was the modern opera Spider’s Wedding, an original production created by the school’s students and teachers. The performance captivated the entire Marijampolė community, attracting an audience of around one thousand people. The creators were rewarded with enthusiastic applause, flowers, and heartfelt congratulations—a powerful recognition of the talent and vision of these young artists.

In addition, the school’s art teachers presented the exhibition Connections at the Marijampolė Culture Center. Centered on themes of nature, ecology, harmony, and sustainability, the exhibition drew significant media attention and attracted a wide audience—highlighting both the relevance and emotional depth of contemporary creative work.

One of the most recent and vibrant events was the Land Art Plein Air, during which the school grounds were transformed with contemporary sculptures and installations. Students, teachers, and guests from Kaunas worked side by side in the open air, celebrating artistic freedom and collective creativity. It was not only an aesthetic enrichment of the school environment but also a strong communal action that embodies the spirit of the INTERACTION project.

These creative initiatives reflect the spirit of the INTERACTION project—bringing people together through art, dialogue, and shared values. As the school year concludes, Marijampolė Art School stands as a vibrant example of how creativity can inspire connection, sustainability, and community pride.
