ANTI-SKINO Performing Arts was established in 2017 as a performing arts team by a group of Cypriot performers and artists. In 2022 the organization was registered as a non-for-profit company with the aim to be active in the cultural scene of the island by introducing performing arts in both urban centres and rural areas.
The organization specializes in productions, creative curation, project management, research and education and the areas of special interest are experimental theatre, creative writing, and actions for social inclusion.
A well-known action of the organization is the annual outdoor theatre festival ANTI-SKINO, which takes place in the remote community of Kato Pyrgos, Tylliria.
The organization’s multidisciplinary team has expertise in various fields, arts, performing arts, sociology, psychology, environment, sustainability and sciences. All team members are social activists with strong interest social inclusion and diversity, gender equality, protection of the cultural heritage and the environment as well as promoting youth participation and active citizenship. All the team members are linked together due to their love for theatre, arts and nature.
The mission of ANTI-SKINO is to inspire, educate and entertain through unique and engaging cultural, artistic and performing arts projects as well as to showcase and expand opportunities for artists, creative individuals, researchers and scientists to participate in national and international cultural and research programs.
The vision of ANTI-SKINO is to bring together artistic ideas and create a strong platform of expression dedicated to the promotion of remarkable, inclusive artistic experiences as well as exchange ideas in the field of performing arts.
The main objectives of ANTI-SKINO are to:
- Promote and encourage the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of performing arts by giving them the right tools.
- Strengthen the ability of artists to develop, produce and present performing arts projects.
- Promote and foster the work of Cypriot artists in Cyprus and abroad.
- Increase the production of performing arts projects to underserved communities or populations.
- Capacity increase of artists in the field of performing arts via training and education.
- Advocate performing arts and arts education in primary and secondary education.
- Support communities’ efforts to utilize the arts and performing arts to attract and grow business and tourism.
- Establish, promote, subside and conduct lectures, courses, seminars, workshops and other forms of education utilizing performing arts directed to various groups.
- Teach, train and instruct artists in Cyprus and abroad and promote education and research in the performing arts with the aim to develop the field of performing arts in the EU.
ANTI-SKINO is highly influenced by European culture since most of the plays they perform are works of European artists.
