Alexandra is a visual artist born in Nicosia with a high environmental and social concern. She is a graduate of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Western Macedonia in Florina and of the Master’s programme “Cultural Policy and Development” of the Open University of Cyprus.
Since 2016 she is practically and research-wise involved in Intangible Cultural Heritage and especially in the field of basketry. She took part in relevant workshops in the UK, Cyprus and Portugal both as a student or as an educator.
In 2020, she completed a three-month Erasmus+ placement at the NGO Passao Ao Futuro, in Lisbon and involved with the maintenance and development of traditional Portuguese handicraft through sustainable design.
Her visual artworks deal with natural or upcycled materials (fabrics, plastic packaging, etc.), incorporating traditional techniques. Her main subjects of interest are the human relation with the natural environment, folk and kitsch culture, rituality, the comparison of engaging people in contemporary art and folk art and sustainability.
Recently she has developed Digital artworks which combine her physical textile artworks and digital drawings in the process of adapting to a new tactile environment.
Alexandra has participated in various group exhibitions, workshops and projects in Cyprus and abroad. Her works are in the collections of the Cyprus Gallery of Contemporary Art and the Imago Mundi of the Luciano Benetton Foundation.
