THEORY:

Contemporary architecture must incorporate these aspects to meet the challenges of the 21st century and create buildings that are friendly to both people and the planet. Sustainable green techniques are extremely important in contemporary architecture for several key reasons, which we will attempt to discuss in this article.

Architecture that utilizes sustainable techniques helps minimize negative impacts on the environment. This includes reducing carbon emissions, limiting the use of natural resources, and decreasing waste. Sustainable construction promotes the use of eco-friendly materials and renewable energy, which helps protect our planet for future generations.
1.2 Energy efficiency
Modern buildings designed according to sustainable architecture principles exhibit high energy efficiency. This reduces energy consumption, resulting in lower operating costs and less environmental burden. The use of modern technologies, such as solar panels, heat recovery systems, and smart energy management systems, allows for significant energy savings.

1.6 The influence of Baroque culture on Polish architecture. – Łącki Old Granary. Combining tradition with modernity
The Old Granary in Łąka, constructed in the late 18th century in the Baroque style between 1781 and 1818, is a significant architectural gem within the Łąka estate. Today, it serves as the vibrant hub of the Center for Culture and Art, offering a window into the region’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
To enter the Center, visitors pass through a historic gate and stroll past the steward’s house before arriving at the grandeur of the renovated granary. These structures, along with the gate, are all that remain of the once bustling economic courtyard that supported the manor. In the past, this area was enclosed by a protective wall and featured numerous stables and barns, as depicted in old plans showcasing a variety of wooden and brick buildings.
The estate, originally belonging to Alfred Potocki, saw significant changes during Poland’s post-war period. Nationalized in 1944, it housed the Production Cooperative “Zwycięstwo” and later functioned as an agricultural school. In 1968, recognizing its historical value, the granary was entered into the monument registry.
Fast forward to 2015, when architects Agata Jasińska-Malec and Tomasz Malec from Rzeszów’s Draft architectural studio initiated a project to revitalize the granary for cultural purposes. This ambitious endeavor included not only restoration but also expansion, incorporating a new north wing featuring a staircase and elevator. The meticulous conservation efforts preserved many original elements, including the grand staircase, wooden gates once serving as the main entrance, and the robust brick walls and vaulted basements.
Above the northern entrance, a striking mural pays homage to Józef Rys, a local artist renowned for his artistic talents and musical prowess. His work vividly captures the essence of Łąka’s rural life through hundreds of drawings and numerous stories. Today, the Center for Culture and Art proudly celebrates Rys and other local luminaries, promoting cultural appreciation and offering a wide range of activities. From sculpture, ceramics, and painting to music, vocal training, and analog photography classes, the center enriches the community’s understanding of beauty and aesthetics. With an Art Library and a professional recording studio, it also serves as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, and film screenings, ensuring that Łąka’s cultural legacy continues to thrive in the modern era.
