When Daiva Zardeckiene, the deputy director of the art school, came to work at this institution, she wanted to gather singing children. By chance, several songs by the composer Indra Mazuikaite fell into her hands: “Little man”, “Hug all” and it turned out that these songs have very meaningful lyrics, simple harmony, and a very simple melody. Little by little, the repertoire accumulated, and finally a complete musical performance was created, which was called “Z Generation”. Then the idea came to talk to former students of our school, who are now studying in various institutions, others are already bringing their children here; to talk to them – how they see the world around them, which is constantly changing.
We see that children are creative, interesting, curious, and that they want to do a lot of things. But how to show it and bring it all together was the biggest puzzle. Not only the phone in children’s hands, but also a large flow of information, sitting at the computer, computer games… The action of this performance takes place as if in a kaleidoscope, there is a lot of everything. If they start doing something, they get bored very quickly, they don’t keep their attention, they don’t concentrate.
The musical “Z generation” shows them and how they feel on stage. A lot of new techniques were used- dance, visual art, information and digital technologies, the main idea is what modern technology is in the 21st century. Progress or plague? The teachers tried to make the children convey their reluctance to be seen. Especially in art classes – they want to be alone – they cover their heads and eyes so that others can see them as little as possible. The songs were chosen in the language of what children like to listen to, enriched with modern rhythms and harmony. The choreography teacher created an impressive dance with phones. The lone lights emerging from the darkness turn into a big, beautiful spectacle. The music technology teacher and students helped.
The managers of musical also wanted to show works of art using non-traditional means. These are metal waste, textile products, threads. From these materials, the students and teachers of the art programs created a collection that was truly impressive. The heroes’ characters and features were highlighted with cosmetics and they looked very impressive on stage.
The performance united singing and dancing children, music, technologies, it left a great impression on both the performers and the audience. It was awarded the nomination “The Best Cultural Event of the Year”.
