Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis is the most famous Lithuanian artist who lived and worked in the 19th and 20th centuries. He was not only a painter but also a composer who lived and worked in Lithuania and Europe. His creative heritage is preserved in the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum in Kaunas. About 113-117 paintings are constantly exhibited in the exposition, which reflects the entire development of the work and ideas of the brilliant Lithuanian artist M.K. Čiurlionis. Čiurlionis’ music is constantly playing here. Čiurlionis’ paintings show a very unique perception of space, which gives the impression of a picture painted as if from a bird’s eye view. The paintings are given a shade of cosmic vision, deep inner concentration. The artist is interested in the creation of the Universe, its structure, questions of the world-ruling spirit, nature and its cycles, the meaning of human life.

In 2018 the creative team of the Lithuanian film industry created the 3D film “The Trail of Angels”. The virtual reality film invites you to get acquainted with 60 of Čiurlionis’ paintings, both very well-known and easily recognizable, as well as less frequently seen, in the virtual space.

The creators of virtual reality are moving forward and virtual reality movies and games are being successfully created in Lithuania. In Marijampole P. Kriaučiūnas public library, there is a play area that is loved by both children and adults. Using virtual reality glasses, you can descend to the bottom of the ocean or fly over the mountains, you can visit the paintings of the most famous artists, for example, go to the works of Salvatore Dali or Vincent Van Gogh.

Povilas Mikulionis, head of media space, conducts education for children and adults in the library.

He says that he explains his visitors and history of virtual reality glasses.  What do children learn through these games? Some games train your musical ear because you have to do everything according to the music. There are also art games. Paint Brush, where you can paint in 3D space. You can draw a tree, go around it from all sides. You can draw with tools that you can’t in real life – like drawing with fire. You can draw special paths or the sun, stars, you can create a 3D picture, you can explore it, walk around it, send it to a friend to see. Children have fun playing virtual games. Now there are even more innovations e.g. Apple Vision glasses or Ocu-vest. Augmented reality is already possible with them. In other words, you see the whole picture, it follows you everywhere, so you don’t need a real TV, you can walk, do something and watch a movie at the same time, as if the TV was on the wall. This is how augmented reality can become a reality and it will not take long.
